The E46 platform served as the foundation for the development of the third generation of the M3, succeeding the iconic E30 model and the subsequent E36. While the E30 M3 boasted BMW’s powerful four-cylinder engine, both the later E36 and E46 M3 models featured the renowned straight-six engines, known for their smooth and refined performance. The production of the E46 M3 CSL lasted only six months, resulting in a limited run of only 1,383 units, further increasing its desirability among collectors and enthusiasts.
Ben’s 2003 E46 M3 CSL is a true gem, with only 88,000 miles on the clock. In 2019, he made the decision to have a brand-new factory-assembled crate engine installed by BMW, which came with a price tag of nearly £20k. Following that, in 2020, the car underwent a meticulous bare-metal respray performed by the acclaimed and multi-award-winning Andy Finch of Spikes Vintage Restoration. It was during this restoration process that Ben entrusted Redish Motorsport to ensure that the underside of the vehicle matched the impeccable condition of the rest of the car.
As Redish Motorsport was responsible for the restoration of the underside, we had the pleasure of applying our Volcanic Matt Black ceramic coating onto the exhaust system. At Performance1 Coatings, our Volcanic Range ceramic coatings are designed to withstand temperatures of up to 980°C, providing exceptional thermal management benefits. By reducing surface temperatures by up to 15%, our Volcanic Matt Black not only enhances the aesthetics of the vehicle’s underside but also delivers a significant performance upgrade. Moreover, the ceramic coating acts as a protective barrier, safeguarding the exhaust system from rust corrosion while maintaining its performance and appearance over time.
